Special Section on the Quantum Internet

Call for Papers

The advance of quantum technologies to the engineering phase is leading to an unprecedented breakthrough in the history of technology: the design and the deployment of the Quantum Internet – a communication network enabling quantum communications among remote quantum nodes. The Quantum Internet will support functionalities with no direct counterpart in the classical Internet, likely in ways we cannot imagine yet. The Quantum Internet will require a major paradigm shift in terms of network design. This special section is aimed at promoting foundational, algorithmic, and experimental advances for the Quantum Internet, spanning communications, cryptography, computing, and sensing as well as fostering new avenues for cross-disciplinary research. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Quantum networks and architecture
  • Quantum network simulators
  • Quantum communications
  • Quantum information theory
  • Entanglement distribution protocols
  • Experimental results and demonstrations
  • Prototypes and testbeds

Articles may report specific technical advances or implementations, provide tutorials on relevant topics, or propose visions/blueprints for future development directions.

Nature of TQE

TQE https://tqe.ieee.org is a continuously published, peer-reviewed, open access journal accessible through IEEE Xplore at https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/tocresult.jsp?isnumber=8961200.

Upon acceptance, the author-supplied preprint will be given a DOI number and posted immediately on IEEE Xplore for early access. The manuscript will be professionally edited and the resulting final copy will replace the preprint.

Contributions will be indexed to this special section so IEEE Xplore can display a list of all the articles submitted in response to this call for papers. There is no limit on the number of papers in this special section.

Submission Guidelines

Prospective authors must follow the TQE manuscript requirements posted at https://tqe.ieee.org/information-for-authors/.

Papers may not be longer than 15,000 words.

Papers are published under the Creative Commons CCBY license terms.

Important Dates

Manuscripts Due: Submission open now through June 30, 2021.

Expected Publication: Early access available shortly after peer review.
